A ‘Critter Reel’ is a compilation of great shots of small forest animals visiting for food. Most great shots of the animals don’t make it into the ‘Chip Away’ series so we’ve compiled them together here for your enjoyment. Your favourite chipmunks, blue jays and squirrels are all here. Camping
This series is about camping at various locations in the area. Camp sites are varied and numerous, with many only accessible by boat.
Every trip is an adventure and if you’re lucky, a calm lake and a glorious sunset will take your breath away. Lose yourself in the sites and sounds of the lake.
Insects
This series will be about local insects and their behavior.
To the right is a picture of a Gypsy moth caterpillar. These awesome things were overly abundant for at least 2 consecutive seasons. Many tree species like Oak and Maple were threatened due to the overwhelming number of these voracious, leaf eating critters.
We watched as these caterpillars devoured the leaves and turned the forest floor into a blanket of caterpillar poop. Unfortunately, all they did was turn into small, plain white moths. They were much more attractive as caterpillars.
Flora
Mushrooms are fascinating, disgusting and everywhere. Our research so far says ‘don’t eat any of these things!’
This series will be about the various plants and other flora that can be found in the area.
